Scientists have been able to make certified reference materials (CRMs) more accurate, even for ion chromatography processes.
Analysts rely on CRMs to identify unknown analytes in a sample and also to calibrate analytical instruments and make allowances for environmental factors.
This means the CRMs must be exact in every aspect, including purity and mass fraction, so that scientists can rely on the measurements. The figures must be the same across different samples of the same CRM, so manufacturers must take great care when producing standardised CRMs and ensure they are in-line with the master version of the material.
